Krk town travel guide
Historic town with fortifications on the seafront. Typical narrow alleyways filled with restaurants and bars; beaches nearby
Krk Town, the principal town on
Krk island, is an ancient town with fortification to the sea and atmospheric narrow lanes and alleyways winding between elegant stone buildings, shops, galleries and restaurants. From the harbour there are excursions to the surrounding islands such as
Rab and Goli otok. In August each year Krk Town is host to a fair which dates back to 1524. The fair features open air concerts, medieval costume events and hundreds of stalls selling street food and crafts. At the beginning of August Krk Town puts aside work to celebrate Lovreceva, a traditional medieval fair with costumes, archery, music and gastronomy. Krk is justly celebrated for its wine. A good way to experience it is to attend Krk Wine Days at the end of August in which local producers showcase their wines in Vrbnik. In the beginning of October, the tiny town of Punat hosts Olive Days celebrating the pungent fruit.
